Weather in Spielberg: What to Expect for Your Event Weekend

Sun hat or rain jacket – the weather calls the shots at the Red Bull Ring. Here's what you can typically expect for DTM, Formula 1, MotoGP and AirPower, where to find current forecasts and live webcams – and what to pack when the weather gods have other plans.

The Murtal valley likes to keep you guessing – and that's exactly what makes an event weekend at the Red Bull Ring exciting. At around 700 metres above sea level, you get classic inner-Alpine climate: warm and sunny when it cooperates, but just as likely to turn surprisingly cool or wet. What's the weather typically like during events?

Sunny spells happily alternate with rain showers, occasionally even sleet in the early morning hours. So pack in layers: fleece jacket, rain trousers, but also sun cream – when the sun does break through, it comes on strong.

[Formula 1](https://www.formula1.com/) in late June: High summer, at least in theory. Daytime temperatures often climb to 25-30 degrees, nights stay pleasantly mild at 12-16. Still, rain's never off the table – summer thunderstorms love rolling over these hills. Historically, F1 in Spielberg has delivered everything: scorching heat to spectacular wet races. So: sun cream AND rain jacket both earn their place in your bag.

[AirPower](https://www.airpower.gv.at/) in early September: September usually shows its golden side – warm but no longer oppressively hot. Daytime 18-24 degrees, nights around 10. Perfect for relaxed evenings at your pitch. The risk of prolonged rain is lower in September, though you should still be prepared for changeable autumn weather. When the sun shines, it's glorious – when it doesn't, things cool down fast.

[MotoGP](https://www.motogp.com/) in late September: Late summer's making its exit. Daytime temperatures realistically hit 15-22 degrees, nights happily sink to 5-10. Autumn wind can make it feel colder still. Rain's possible, but showers often pass quickly. If you're camping here, you'll want proper heating in your motorhome or a warm sleeping bag for the tent.

Live webcams, weather forecasts and the Red Bull Ring app

Reliable weather forecasts appear about 10 days before the event – anything earlier is rough guesswork at best. Good places to check are the usual weather services like ZAMG (Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics) or wetter.at, which are pretty accurate for the Murtal region specifically.

Bad weather checklist: What actually needs to go in your bag?

When the weather doesn't cooperate, the right gear makes the difference between "miserably soaked" and "totally manageable." Here's our honest packing list:

Clothing: Rain jacket and trousers (breathable!), warm layers (fleece, softshell jacket), waterproof shoes or wellies. Even in summer it can get chilly in the evenings – long trousers and a jumper are never wrong.

For your pitch: Tarp or gazebo (for staying dry outside), rubber mallet and pegs (so nothing blows away), head torch or flashlight (when darkness falls early). When it rains, the grass can get muddy – anti-slip mats under your motorhome or a waterproof ground sheet for your awning help.

Electronics: Power bank (if you're out and about for longer), splash-proof phone case. There's electricity at the pitch – for that you'll need an approximately 40-metre splash-proof extension cable (IP44) with Schuko plug.

Other bits: Sun cream and cap (yes, even in changeable weather!), insect repellent (when it's muggy the little buggers can be annoying), bin bags (for storing wet clothes and keeping them dry).

And honestly: when you're properly prepared for bad weather, you can actually enjoy it. A warm drink from your thermos, dry clothes in your bag – and the race becomes a memory, not a survival mission.
