Heading to the Red Bull Ring usually means packing plenty — but not everything's allowed in. Strict entrance controls keep everyone safe and the party going. What stays in the car, what's fine at your pitch? Here's the clear list.

Before your first walk to the track, there's a question: What comes along, what stays at the motorhome? The Red Bull Ring has clear rules — and they're actually enforced when you enter the event grounds. Know them beforehand and you'll skip the discussions at the gate, starting your race weekend relaxed.

What's strictly banned at the Red Bull Ring?

The banned list is manageable, but enforced consistently. Pyrotechnics and fireworks stay outside — that includes flares, smoke bombs, even sparklers. Weapons of any kind are obviously prohibited, as are glass bottles (injury risk is just too high with thousands of visitors). Flammable liquids like petrol canisters or large amounts of spirits have no place on event grounds either. Security at the entrance looks carefully — if you've got any of these, you'll need to take them back to your car or surrender them.

"I had a glass beer bottle in my backpack — had to walk back to the motorhome before I could get in," a regular guest from Germany recalls. "Second attempt with aluminium cans, no problem."

And at the campsite — what applies here?

At Schitterhof itself, there are clear rules that help several hundred guests coexist happily. Fireworks and pyrotechnics are just as banned as on the event grounds — no rockets, no bangers. Weapons and glass bottles remain prohibited here too. Charcoal grills, open fires, campfires and fire bowls aren't allowed for fire safety reasons — but you can use gas and electric grills in proper equipment without issue.

Another point that often catches guests out on arrival: You can't bring external power generators. Guaranteed quiet and clean air matter to us — built-in heaters or air conditioning in your motorhome are naturally fine, but clattering generators disturb neighbours and simply don't fit our standards.

How does the security check actually work?

When entering the Red Bull Ring grounds — walking from the campsite towards the grandstands — you'll be checked like all other visitors at the entrance. That means: bags and backpacks are searched, often with metal detector checks too. Security is friendly but thorough. Just factor in a few extra minutes, especially on main race days (Saturday/Sunday for Formula 1 and MotoGP).

At the campsite itself, there's no daily check when entering and leaving — your wristband from check-in is enough. However, there is a quick check at arrival during check-in to make sure everything's in order. And at night our security team ensures the 11pm quiet hours are observed. Anyone breaking house rules (like lighting open fires or playing loud music after 11pm) gets a friendly but firm reminder.

What is allowed — and what should I watch out for?

Allowed on event grounds are drinks in cans or plastic bottles (usually with quantity limits, check the Red Bull Ring's notices), sunscreen, snacks in soft packaging, rain protection and naturally personal items like phone, wallet and camera. At the campsite you can bring anything for normal camping needs — as long as it doesn't touch the bans mentioned above.

Moderate alcohol consumption is allowed both at the pitch and on event grounds (Austrian youth protection laws apply, naturally). Smoking only outdoors, not in sanitary or catering areas. Dogs are warmly welcomed at the campsite (free, on leads) — they usually can't come onto the Red Bull Ring event grounds.

Tips for stress-free arrival

Pack cleverly: Leave glass bottles and pyrotechnics at home and there'll be no surprises at the gate. If you're unsure, check the Red Bull Ring's current visitor information or ask us at check-in. Also helpful: Pack your day bag for the event grounds so you can open it quickly — speeds up the check.

And if something's not right? No drama. Security will point it out kindly, you can either take the item back to your motorhome (it's under ten minutes from Schitterhof) or surrender it at the security point. Most guests get used to it quickly — and then appreciate that the rules apply to everyone and create a safe, relaxed event.
