100 % green electricity at your pitch – sustainable camping at the Red Bull Ring

If you travel by motorhome you don''t want to go without electricity – but you want to keep an eye on the environment too. At the Schitterhof, every pitch runs on 100 % certified green electricity. What that means in practice, how to make the best use of your connection and why we back clean energy – here you go.

For many people camping means freedom, closeness to nature – and a certain independence. But honestly: without electricity things get uncomfortable fast. Cool box, coffee machine, light in the awning – all of it needs energy. That is why we deliberately decided to offer nothing but green electricity across the whole Schitterhof. No marketing greenwash, but a clear stance: motorsport and environmental awareness do not have to rule each other out.

What does 100 % green electricity actually mean?

Quite simple: the power coming out of the socket at your pitch stems 100 % from renewable sources – water, wind or sun. Certified, traceable, guaranteed CO₂-neutral. That does not mean we mount a solar panel on every motorhome (charming as that would be). It means that as operators we deliberately chose a green electricity tariff and thereby actively support the energy transition.

For you as a guest practically nothing changes – except the good feeling that your morning espresso is brewed climate-neutrally. The connection rating stays the same (230 V / 8 A, Schuko CEE 7/3), the comfort stays, the environment benefits.

Which pitches have electricity – and what does it cost?

In the categories PREMIUM, PREMIUM XL and PREMIUM XXL as well as in the Chalet, the power connection is already included. You book your pitch, roll in, plug in your cable – done. No extra effort, no extra payment step.

In the BASIC category (approx. 30 m² on a gently sloping meadow, ideal for a car with tent or smaller campers up to 6 m) you can add electricity as an option. That gives you the choice: camp minimalist without a connection, or with the certainty of being able to charge at any time. The current price for the electricity option is shown transparently in the booking form – choose the category, activate the option, the price appears automatically.

Which cable do I need – and what should I watch out for?

At the pitch you will find a standard Schuko socket (type F, CEE 7/3) – exactly the same as at home in Germany or Austria. Two round holes, two metal clips for earthing, 230 volts. If you come from Great Britain, Switzerland, Italy or from outside Europe, you need a travel adapter to type F. For everyone else the normal Schuko or Euro plug fits directly.

We recommend a splash-proof cable reel of about 40 m (at least 25 m). Important: always unroll the cable completely during use, otherwise the wound-up reel can overheat. The connection is rated at a maximum of 8 A – roughly 1.8 kW. Enough for coffee machine, cool box, chargers and lighting at the same time. Only use CE-tested cables approved for outdoor use (IP44). Lay the cable so that nobody trips over it – secure or cover it, especially with children around.

E-cars, e-bikes and whatever else charges

A question that keeps coming: can I charge my electric car at the pitch? The honest answer: no. Charging vehicles via the pitch connection is not allowed for safety reasons – the connections are rated at 8 A for household appliances, not for hours of high-power charging. The nearest public charging station is at the RingRast filling station, approx. 500 m away. Billing runs via the usual charging apps such as SMATRICS, EnBW or Shell Recharge.

E-bikes, on the other hand, are no problem at all – the normal Schuko sockets at the pitch are perfectly sufficient. Just plug in the charger, charge overnight and do a lap on the Mur cycle path R2 the next morning (reachable in about 10 minutes). Perfect for discovering the region away from the track.

Why generators are not allowed

Some campers still carry a small petrol or diesel generator – handy for self-sufficient tours, no question. At the Schitterhof, however, external generators are not allowed. The reason is simple: guaranteed quiet and clean air matter to us. From 11 pm strict night rest applies – no engine noise, no exhaust, no droning from the neighbouring pitch. Families, seniors, everyone who wants to recover after race day appreciates exactly that.

Permanently installed heaters or air conditioners in the motorhome are of course allowed – they run off the on-board battery or the pitch connection and are much quieter. And since every PREMIUM pitch and the Chalet include electricity anyway, you no longer need a generator. Plug in, lean back, enjoy the quiet.

Sustainable camping – more than green electricity

Let''s be honest: green electricity alone does not make a sustainable campsite. But it is an important building block. At the Schitterhof we also take care to use water sensibly (drinking water in top quality from the public supply, central taps), to separate waste consistently (coloured bags at check-in, separate containers for paper, glass, plastic) and to manage the meadows gently. The sanitary facilities are cleaned several times a day, LED lighting saves energy, and the gastronomy relies on regional products wherever possible.

No greenwashing, no big words – just solid everyday decisions. What you notice as a guest above all: things run smoothly, it is clean, and you can holiday with a clear conscience.

Frequent questions about power at the pitch

Can I run several appliances at once? Yes, as long as the total load does not exceed 8 A (approx. 1.8 kW). Coffee machine, cool box and a few chargers work in parallel without any problem.

What happens in case of overload? The fuse trips. Just contact the team – we reset it. Spread the load across fewer appliances at once afterwards and everything stays stable.

Is electricity included in the price? For PREMIUM, PREMIUM XL, PREMIUM XXL and the Chalet, yes. With BASIC you add electricity as an option – the current price is shown in the booking form.
