F1 in the motorhome in Spielberg - what a regular guest wrote to us after 30 years of traveling in a

After 30 years of traveling in a motorhome, one knows the difference between a makeshift event camping site and a pitch that does justice to the vehicle. Last week, we received a message from a couple who had experienced both extremes — and who precisely outlines in their formula of experience why a few specific technical details can make a difference during an F1 weekend. We are sharing the message in full, with the senders' consent.

The Message

"Dear Schitterhof Team,

We arrived back home on Monday after the race — motorhome full, laundry sorted, coffee in our own kitchen. It's always at this transition point that one reflects on what was actually crucial during a weekend. For us, this time it was three simple things.

First: Power pedestals at the pitch. Not 'fifty meters away', not 'ask at reception' — directly at the pitch, with 16 A each secured by two Schuko outlets. On Friday afternoon, we ran the air conditioning and inverter simultaneously, no voltage drop. This is an ongoing issue at some event sites, but it was easily solved at your place.

Second: Level, paved grass. We arrived on Thursday in the late rain, mentally preparing for the maneuvering theater. It was unnecessary. The ground easily supported our double axle, no sinking, no improvising to level. Even when leaving on Sunday afternoon — no mud.

Third, and this is the real gift: the night. We take out our hearing aids in the evening, our way of saying good night. At the last three event sites, despite removing the hearing aids, we had to get up twice around midnight because a bass system somewhere was pulsating through the bodywork. Not at your place. On Saturday at 11:15 PM, we were still sitting outside, cup of tea in hand, just listening. We heard branches rustling in the wind. Nothing more.

We are booking Premium XXL for next year. Please confirm with pitch number and arrival time slot — you know we like to plan ahead.

Best regards,
H. and R. Sch., Vorarlberg

The Technical Details Behind It

The points mentioned by the Sch. couple are documented on our booking page — the power supply at the pitch is indeed a specific setup: 15 power distributors spread across the site, each with 24 Schuko outlets (360 connections in total), two Schuko outlets sharing a 16 A fuse. On PREMIUM XXL pitches, there are additional Schuko and 16 A CEE outlets directly at the pitch — relevant for large motorhomes with air conditioning, inverters, or heaters under full load.

The pitch categories accommodate vehicles up to 12 meters in length — from BASIC starting at 30 m² (campervan, tent, small motorhome up to 6 m) to PREMIUM 48 m² and PREMIUM XL 60 m², up to PREMIUM XXL 78 m² for double axles, trailer combinations, and heavy rear garage motorhomes.

Why the Night Sounds the Way It Does

The Sch.s mention that taking out hearing aids works at our place — also acoustically. This is not coincidental. A public noise analysis for the Spielberger camps according to ISO 9613-2 models 38.7 dB(A) at midnight on the F1 weekend at our site — the level of a quiet living room with the hum of a refrigerator in the kitchen next door. Other official sites in the same calculation range between 58 and 65 dB(A) — at conversational volume. The ±5 dB tolerance according to the standard considers weather and wind variations.

The main reason for the difference is geography: the hill range between Spielbergerstraße and the track absorbs 17–22 dB. And we do not operate a party park, no DJ stage — the on-site sound sources, individually modeled for each recipient, are zero at our place.

For Motorhome Travelers Who Want to Plan Ahead

Book 6–8 months in advance, specify vehicle length including drawbar. Opt for PREMIUM XL or XXL for large vehicles. Reservation confirmation with pitch number and arrival time slot.
